Paultons Park

The world’s first Peppa Pig World is one of the main attractions at Paultons Park, an award-winning, 140-acre, family-owned theme park on the edge of the New Forest near Romsey in Hampshire. Its 70+ rides and attractions also include Lost Kingdom, featuring 27 animatronic dinosaurs, while the grounds feature 80 species of live birds and animals too. Up to 60,000 people a week visit in the peak summer season. The park’s catering operation has 15 outlets and relies on AvantiGas to fuel them.

The Challenge

A regular and reliable LPG supply may be crucial for any off-grid business, but keeping thousands of visitors happy is a priority at Paultons Park. Food and Beverage Manager Andrew Edwards has the massive job of keeping the whole catering operation running smoothly: “It is a lot of people to cater for, and making sure they are fed and watered is very important.”

What we did

AvantiGas is proud to have served Paultons Park and Peppa Pig World for many years, not only supplying gas for the catering outlets but also fueling heating in the engineering workshops where the park’s rides and equipment are serviced and maintained.

The extensive LPG ‘tank farm’ supplying these needs has kept pace as the park’s energy requirement has increased over the years as it expanded. “And it will continue to grow,” says Andrew. “I think plans are already in place for an additional above-ground tank to be installed over the winter period, because we have grown and our requirements and demands grow with that. I think that’s going to continue to happen over the next five to 10 years.”

The results

AvantiGas has carried on delivering what the park needs when they need it, year in year out: “I think it’s certainly one of those parts of the business that if things weren’t working as required then there would be changes, so it shows how good the service has been,” said Andrew.

Reliability and flexibility have been key as the park expanded and as requirements and expectations changed. Andrew again: “We understand that people’s perception of food and drink is ever-changing and the demands are becoming higher all the time with different allergens and things like that and it’s important that we cater for them. We constantly introduce new concepts to meet their requirements.”

The result of all their efforts has been happy customers. Paultons Park has been rated the UK’s number one family theme park three years running in the TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice awards.

The park aims mainly at younger children, and seeing their reactions to Peppa Pig and her friends is one of things Andrew most enjoys about his role: “It’s fantastic. The children love it. I think that’s one of the best things about the job really, seeing the children’s faces and knowing that you’ve had a part to play in that.” AvantiGas is delighted to play a small part in that too.
