Mental Health Awareness
The latest statistics highlight that one in six people in the UK experience a common mental health problem every single week[1]. Although a startling number, it does mean that mental health is at the forefront of everyone’s minds. As a result, more people than ever before are standing up and taking notice of the signs and symptoms of mental health and what it means for individuals. And AvantiGas, one of the UK’s leading suppliers of LPG, is no exception.
The company, which has a long-standing reputation for staff development, has enabled three of its team across two sites to become trained mental health first aiders, sending them on a two-day course to understand the impact mental health has on individuals and identify the triggers in the workplace.
Covering all aspects of mental health, the course contained intensive and immersive sessions that taught the staff the skills and knowledge they need to spot the signs of mental illness. Through practical exercises, video training sessions, and roleplay, the course provided the staff the confidence to intervene and support those who may need assistance and encourage them to take the steps they need to seek help.
Going one step further, the business has also utilised digital tools to provide employees with information on screens in communal areas. Offering tips on dealing with stress and helping others with mental health issues, the business has also pledged to continue working with departments to ensure continued development in this area.
