Established in 1975, Thirsk-based Hill Interiors is one of the UK’s leading wholesalers of interior furnishings and giftware. In recent years this successful family business has doubled its warehouse space to cater for significant business growth.

Hill Interiors had already recognised the need to transition to more sustainable energy sources by installing solar panels on its warehouse roof space. As part of its expansion plans for its head office site, it approached AvantiGas for a fully funded biomass solution that would allow it to upgrade its existing heating systems and improve the quality of heat supplied to across the site.

What we did

Opting for the on-site model, AvantiGas replaced the oil and electric with a 100kW biomass wood pellet which, in addition to heating the office and showroom space, provided sufficient capacity to heat the additional packing areas in the new warehouse space.

Much of the office and showroom space required a new “wet system” in order to replace the expensive, inefficient electric heating. The installation team was on site for approximately four weeks but with no adverse impact on the heating and hot water supply during this time.

The results

Owner, Nicholas Hill commented: the on-site model provided by AvantiGas ticked a number of boxes for our business. We were able to reduce our fuel costs and switch to a greener fuel without tying up the capital that allows us to expand our core business. The proposal also delivered a more comfortable working environment for our packing team with directional fan heaters focusing the heat to the areas in which they work.
